The four girls in our dormitory have all been reborn, one of whom is pregnant, and the apocalypse is only five hours away.

In our previous life, we supported each other in the struggle of the apocalypse but still met our end at the mouths of zombies.

In this life, we must strive to live to be a hundred years old.

01

When I woke up, I was lying on the bed in my college dormitory, and my three roommates, Mia, Jenny, and Hannah, slowly sat up as well.

After staring at each other in disbelief for a while, we confirmed that we had been reborn. It was 10 a.m., and the apocalypse would arrive in five hours.

Our first thought was to go home, but we were all from out of province, and even if we bought tickets now, it would be too late.

In our previous life, we survived the initial chaos by hiding in a private dining room, but due to a severe shortage of food and water, we lived in extreme hardship.

Later, in order to survive, we ventured out on a path of survival, living in constant fear and hiding for half a year before we couldn’t escape the fate of being bitten and killed.

“Let’s take refuge where we are, stock up on supplies, and hold out for as long as we can,” I suggested.

Mia nodded. “I agree, but our door is as thin as paper and won’t hold against zombies, and besides, we don’t have much money. How are we going to buy supplies?”

“Even if we had the money, our dorm room is so small, where would we put everything? Should we rent a house now?” Jenny was also worried.

“There are only five hours left. Renting a house and buying supplies would definitely be too late,” I looked around the dormitory and then patted the wall. “The room next door is an activity room. We can store our supplies there first. This wall isn’t a load-bearing wall, so we can make a hole in it later to access it. As for safety, we should buy wood and tools from the building materials market and reinforce the doors and windows ourselves.”

We were all people who had survived in the apocalypse and knew that this was the fastest and easiest solution at the moment.

But this process would definitely attract attention, yet time was limited, and we could only deal with problems as they came.

During our discussion, only Hannah remained silent, because she was—pregnant.

In our previous life, her boyfriend was going abroad for an exchange program. In their parting moment, they couldn’t help themselves, and as a result, she unexpectedly conceived a child.

A month after the end of the world, she experienced morning sickness. This child, like the apocalypse, came unexpectedly, leaving us all at a loss.

“I’m sorry, I can’t be a burden to you anymore. Thank you for taking care of me in our previous life,” Hannah said firmly and then transferred all her money to us. “Take this money to buy what you need. Live well. If I have a soul after I die, I will repay your kindness.”

I grabbed her hand. ” We’ve agreed to be godmothers to the baby.”

“Just as before, last time we endured so much hardship, this time we have foreknowledge and things will definitely be better, Hannah, don’t be afraid.” Mia and Jenny also tried to reassure her.

Hannah’s emotions were unstable, and we understood her worries and fears, but we couldn’t waste time worrying about the future right now.

02

Our first step was to gather money. We pooled our savings, the money given by our parents, and borrowed from credit cards and lending platforms without hesitation. It didn’t matter since we wouldn’t have to pay it back anyway.

In half an hour, we managed to gather 83,000 dollars.

We immediately split up. Mia went to the building materials market to buy materials, tools, and some handy weapons, while Jenny and I were in charge of the living supplies.

I contacted the water delivery person for 50 barrels of purified water. T

hey thought I was joking, but when I transferred half the payment, they were more than happy to arrange it.

At the same time, Jenny was ordering various long-lasting food items online. These would be delivered by couriers, lightening our load significantly.

“Hannah, you stay in the dormitory to receive the supplies. Don’t leave, and make sure to fully charge our computers and power banks. Our safety depends on you.”

Hannah finally nodded. “Go ahead, I’ll take care of everything.”

Just outside the school was a large supermarket. Jenny and I headed there, dragging our suitcases.

It was exam week, and students were either taking exams or studying in the library. There weren’t many people in the dormitory or on campus.

On our way, we called our parents, informing them of an impending emergency and urging them to stock up on food at home.

However, our parents didn’t believe us. In a peaceful society, how could there be an emergency?

We couldn’t explain, so we could only repeatedly instruct them that if they noticed any danger around three o’clock in the afternoon, they must not run around but find a place to hide.

After settling things with our parents, we arrived at the supermarket. We first went to the vacuum-packed food sections, taking as much as we could carry.

The second time, we went to the fuel section, grabbing all the solid and canned fuel we could find. We filled four suitcases and dragged them back.

When we returned to the dormitory, the water delivery person had arrived and was carrying the water barrels up to the fourth floor activity room.

The dorm supervisor was puzzled by the amount of water, but fortunately, she didn’t ask too many questions.

On our third trip to the supermarket, we bought toothpaste, toothbrushes, sanitary napkins, underwear, garbage bags, water filters, disinfectant, masks, and other hygiene-related items.

After purchasing all these items, it was already half past eleven in the morning, and Mia had also returned from the building materials market.

Together, we moved the materials and tools into our dormitory.

“Why did you buy all these things?” the dorm supervisor auntie couldn’t help but ask this time.

“Auntie, we have a model assignment for our architecture department,” I made up an excuse.

The auntie looked at us and said, “It’s fine to make models, but you can’t use high-power electrical appliances. I’ll confiscate them.”

We nodded repeatedly, while hiding the toolbox containing the electric drill behind our backs.

The food ordered online kept arriving, which also attracted the attention of some classmates. They crowded around our door to watch.

“Su, why aren’t you studying for the exams? What are you doing?” a classmate asked me.

Looking at their youthful faces, I thought about how they would soon be infected and turned into zombies.

My heart ached, and I vaguely said, “We’re worried about a possible emergency. You should also stock up on supplies, and don’t run around later.”

“You guys are so strange. Why would there be an emergency when everything is fine? There’s an exam tomorrow morning, and I don’t want to fail,” they said as they left.

“Forget it. No one will believe something like this. Let’s go,” Jenny sighed helplessly.

Although we knew what was going to happen, we didn’t have the ability to change it.

At noon, we went to the supermarket with a list of items we needed to fill in the gaps, making sure to buy everything we were missing.

As we left the supermarket, I noticed a motorcycle shop next door. I went in and bought four helmets and four sets of wear-resistant clothing and gloves.

After our food and water supplies run out, we will definitely have to go out to find food. These items could reduce the probability of us being bitten and infected to some extent.

At half past one, there was still one hour before the end of the world.

Our final stops were the baby store and the pharmacy.

At the baby store, we bought items like milk powder, baby clothes, blankets, diapers, bottles, and maternity bags based on the experiences of mothers online.

We even downloaded videos on childbirth guidance.

Although we didn’t know if the little life would be fortunate enough to arrive, we wanted to prepare for every possibility.

As we were leaving, we saw child-sized toilets and took two of them. By putting garbage bags on them, we could solve our toilet problems later on.

Finally, we went to the pharmacy. If we hadn’t received rescue after nine months, we would have to deliver the baby ourselves.

So in addition to various tonics and medicines, we also bought scissors, gauze, alcohol, tourniquets, and so on.

We bought everything we could, whether or not it would be useful, until we spent every last penny.
At twenty past two, we returned to the dormitory building by car.

Most of our classmates had gone to take their exams, so the dormitory building was quiet. We climbed the stairs with our large bags of supplies.

Suddenly, my load felt lighter as I turned to see a passing girl helping me carry the load.

“Thanks, I can manage it myself,” I said, instinctively wary and declining her help.

The girl smiled brightly. “It’s no problem, just a small favor.”

Beside her, another girl with short hair was helping Jenny carry the baby formula.

“Why are you still drinking baby formula? It’s not suitable for us. You should buy specialized student formula,” the short-haired girl said with a smile.

“Okay, we’ll switch next time,” I replied.

They helped us carry the items up to the staircase and went upstairs. I watched them go up to the sixth floor, where the landscape architecture department’s dorms were.

After we put everything away, we closed the activity room door and returned to the dorm in silence. At the age of twenty, we were waiting for the end of the world to arrive.

03

At three o’clock, clouds piled up in the sky, blocking out the sunlight.

A scream pierced the campus, followed by a second, then a third…

The infected were indiscriminately biting people around them, and those bitten would soon mutate into zombies.

Hannah clutched her abdomen tightly and curled up on the bed. We called our families, urging our parents to hide and not to run around.

Then I opened the toolbox, took out the electric drill, and plugged it in. Mia and Jenny also picked up wooden boards, and the two of us began to nail the windows and doors.

Halfway through nailing the window, a bloody hand appeared on the window. It was Lily, our neighbor from the next dorm, who had been bitten.

“Something’s happening outside. I didn’t bring my key, let me in to hide for a bit,” she said to us in fear.

Black lines had already appeared on her neck, spreading toward her brain. In at most five minutes, her consciousness would be completely lost, and she would become a zombie.

“Lily, call your parents,” I told her.

At this moment, the best way was a proper farewell.

Lily was stunned for a moment, then looked at herself on the window. When she saw the terrifying lines, she screamed in madness.

She pounded on our door desperately. “Let me in, let me in, please.”

We couldn’t open the door, and could only continue nailing the windows and doors, enduring the feeling of helplessness.

Lily’s voice gradually faded. Through the crack in the door, I saw her struggling to take out her phone and dial a number. The call was quickly answered on the other end.

“Lily, hide quickly. Something’s happening outside,” came the anxious voice from the other end of the line.

“Mom…” Lily called weakly, and the phone in her hand suddenly fell to the ground.

Her eyes had turned gray and no longer had the vitality of a living person. “Lily, Lily…” Lily’s mother was still calling out on the other end, but Lily could no longer hear her.

She swayed, scratching at our door. Our living breath attracted her, and she wanted to come in.

We had no time to mourn for her; we could only continue nailing the door shut as quickly as possible.

News reports detailed the unfolding situation: the entire world was facing a disaster today, and the government was advising everyone to seek shelter nearby and await rescue.

We managed to contact our parents again, and thankfully, they were all still alive.

My mother wept bitterly, fearing that we, mother and daughter, would never see each other again in this life. My father, however, was much calmer.

Having been a soldier, he instructed me over the phone on how to fortify our house and how to hide, reminding us that at this time, we must unite and must not let our hearts drift apart.

“Hannah, you should try to contact Tim now,” I reminded Hannah.

Hannah was an orphan, and it was Tim’s family that had supported her through life and education. The two had grown up together. In our previous life, we had all managed to contact our families, except for her and Tim.

“Okay.” Hannah came to her senses and called Tim on voice chat.

This time, the call got through.

When Tim learned that Hannah was pregnant, he urgently instructed her, “Wait for me, wait until I come back to marry you.”

But he was on the other side of the ocean, separated from Hannah by mountains and seas. How could he possibly return?

“Don’t come back. Stay safe over there. Wait until… until things stabilize in the future before you come back.” Hannah advised him, even though we didn’t know when that future would be.

After the call, we continued our actions, taking advantage of the noisy sounds outside to start breaking down the wall as cover.

Half an hour later, we broke through a hole large enough for half a person to pass through, and then we nailed the door of the activity room shut with wooden boards.

The side of the activity room facing the corridor had no windows. Unless someone flew up to the fourth floor from the back, they wouldn’t discover the supplies stored here.

However, this was the fourth floor, and zombies couldn’t fly.

The only thing we had to guard against were people.

By seven o’clock in the evening, the campus had gradually quieted down.

The majority of people had been infected and were aimlessly wandering without awareness.

Looking out, some dormitories still had lights on, and from time to time, cries and curses could be heard.

There seemed to be someone in our building, but I couldn’t determine their exact location.

We didn’t turn on the lights, drawing the curtains and quietly sorting through the supplies.

The dorm room was now filled with things. The items we used frequently we kept by our side, and the rest we quietly put into the activity room.

When sleeping at night, aside from Hannah, the three of us took turns keeping watch.

Each of us had a hammer and a knife at hand, ready to deal with any emergencies that might arise.
