On the highway, I turned on the cruise control, but I found that the brakes were no longer working.

No matter how hard I pressed the brake, the speed stayed at a hundred kilometers per hour.

To my right was a large truck, and to my left was a white sedan crawling in the passing lane, parallel to the truck.

My wife was in the back seat feeding our baby snacks, and when she saw that we were about to crash, she asked why I wasn’t slowing down.

I turned to look back at her.

I saw her eyes in the rearview mirror and bitterly said, “Buckle up and hold on tight.

And…

I love you.”

As I frantically honked the horn, my wife had already anticipated what was about to happen.

The car in front was still crawling along, with a speed of only about seventy.

I couldn’t stand those cars crawling in the passing lane! I couldn’t stop honking, and finally, the white sedan slightly increased its speed.

But just as I thought I could breathe a sigh of relief, a terrifying thing happened.

The white sedan’s brake lights suddenly flashed! There were clearly no obstacles in front of him, but he must have found my honking annoying and deliberately braked to scare me! The problem was, I couldn’t brake at all! With a loud crash, I slammed into it.

The car jerked violently; my wife held onto the handle, and I gripped the steering wheel tightly.

If I swerved out of my lane, I would get sucked in by the big truck beside us! Fortunately, the white sedan’s intention was to scare me, and the driver probably quickly switched from braking to accelerating.

So when I crashed into him, he was startled himself and floored the accelerator to pull away.

We passed the large truck, and the window of the white sedan rolled down.

A man waved at me, cursing about something.

He started to move towards the adjacent lane, wanting me to stop.

My wife rolled down the window and anxiously shouted that the brakes were broken.

But with such strong wind resistance, how could the sound possibly get through?

Seeing that I was driving away, the white sedan immediately chased after us.

The man was furious; clearly, it was his slow driving and deliberate braking that scared me, yet he acted as if he was the one wronged, giving me the finger.

He stepped on the gas and rushed in front of me again; this guy actually wanted to play chicken on the highway! Uncivilized drivers on the road often mean sending death to any innocent family.

As his car blocked me, I crashed into him hard! With another loud crash, his front was smashed to pieces by my car, and I was propelled forward.

The sheer force made my car lose balance, and I quickly turned on the lane assist, gripping the steering wheel tightly.

The faster the speed, the less we can afford to panic; if we’re not careful and veer off, we could end up in a wreck! My wife in the back was sobbing and shaking, “How did we end up encountering such a person?”

Inside, I was overwhelmed with a desire to tear this driver apart.

My wife and my child were in the car.

Our lives hung in the balance, yet he wouldn’t think he was in the wrong; he would only see us as the ones tailgating and trying to escape.

Sure enough, the white car quickly caught up with us again.

His front end was clearly smashed, yet he still refused to let us go.

I could only keep my speed at one hundred kilometers, while he was flooring the gas, rushing ahead of us.

Suddenly, his window rolled down.

From his car, he threw out a bucket of instant noodles that had just been eaten, smashing it right onto my windshield! The noodle soup splattered all over my glass, completely blocking my view of the road.

I quickly turned on the wipers, but my windshield was covered in a greasy film! At that moment, our lives hung in the balance.

We couldn’t see anything in front of us.

The more I wiped, the worse it got; I had to scrape off the noodles first and let the rest dry on its own, so I could barely see ahead.

My wife was in the back, crying and trembling, but she quickly picked up her phone to call the police.

“My husband and I are on the highway, and our brakes are broken.”

“A car is deliberately stopping us and even threw noodles at us.”

“Please, officer… save our family!”

Wiping her tears, my wife connected her phone to the Bluetooth and cried, “Honey, the police want to know our location, but I don’t know where we are.”

Once connected, I said, “We just passed the highway401 exit, heading south towards the city.”

The officer asked, “What color is your car, and what is your license plate number?”

I replied, “It’s matte gray, and the license plate number is 72C32.”

“We’ll block the relevant highway entrances ahead right away and dispatch a police car to escort you.

Can you see the license plate number of the car causing trouble beside you? We’ll contact him to move away immediately.”

“I didn’t catch his license plate number; I can’t see it now; the car is driving parallel to me.”

“Understood, we will check all the surveillance cameras; you just keep driving.”

I swallowed hard and asked the question I was most concerned about: “How far is the nearest emergency lane?”

There was silence on the other end for a few seconds before they said, “Eighty kilometers? We’ll do our best to protect you.”

In that instant, my heart sank like a stone.

Eighty kilometers, almost the distance between two cities! The white car was still driving parallel to me, and the driver was cursing at me.

I couldn’t hear what he was yelling, but I knew it must have been pretty nasty.

The most important thing was that the emergency lane was coming up ahead.

At this moment, if I could switch to the emergency lane, it would greatly increase the chances of survival for my family! The problem was this white car! It was blocking me on the right at the same speed, making it impossible for me to get into the emergency lane! My wife, sitting in the back, wiped her tears and suddenly unbuckled her seatbelt, saying, “Hurry and switch with me, I’ll drive!”

I looked up and locked eyes with my wife in the rearview mirror.

She cried, “It’s safer in the back; just let me take the wheel!”

I didn’t respond, just tightened my grip on the steering wheel.

She continued to plead with me to switch places, “What’s going to happen to me and our daughter if you don’t make it? I can’t earn much to support her; it’s better for you to survive than for me.”

I turned back to glance at our daughter.

She was still babbling away, blissfully unaware of the crisis around her.

She held a small cookie, happily waving her little hand.

I mustered a smile and said to her, “Sweetheart, call Daddy.”

She had never called me Daddy before.

If I were to die here today, I just wanted to hear her call me Daddy.

Our daughter giggled at me, shaking her little cookie, saying “Apu Apu.”

When I still wouldn’t switch, my wife urgently tugged at my shirt.

My nose tingled with emotion, and I wiped my tears away, my voice shaking.

“I’ve never believed in ghosts, but if I could meet you again, I hope it would be in the next life.”

My wife stared at me blankly.

But then, I felt a tightening in my chest.

Because the white car had once again overtaken me from the right lane.

I didn’t know what he was planning, but every move he made me very anxious.

I realized I was dealing with someone dangerous.

A driver who dares to crawl in the passing lane is either an idiot or has no respect for life.

His actions made it clear he had zero regard for life.

His window rolled down again, and something was tossed out.

Before I could even see what it was, my window shattered! My wife let out a painful scream.

I turned my head to look and was stunned.

A screwdriver came flying through the windshield; not only did it shatter my windshield, but at a speed of one hundred kilometers per hour, it pierced straight through the passenger seat and brutally lodged itself in my wife’s shoulder!

I turned around and saw my wife in the back seat impaled in her seat by the screwdriver, covering her shoulder, blood pouring out! In an instant, I was in shock.

One thought kept echoing in my mind: Kill him! My daughter was now crying in terror.

When I looked at her, I realized a shard of glass had pierced her little face, leaving it drenched in blood! My wife was in agony, her face ashen, but upon seeing our daughter injured, she struggled to grasp the screwdriver and yanked it out.

She rushed to our daughter’s side, frantically saying, “Baby… don’t be scared…”

My wife checked our daughter’s wound, weakly crying to me, “The baby’s face is cut…

there’s glass embedded in her flesh, I’m afraid to move her…”

Watching this scene in the rearview mirror, my heart felt like it was being torn to shreds! Just moments ago, my wife was peeling grapes for me in the back seat, and my daughter was happily munching on a cookie.

But now, one was pierced through the shoulder, and the other was covered in blood.

I vowed that if I survived this, I would make that white car driver pay! The right windshield had already been shattered, and with my speed, shards of glass were occasionally blown inside.

I was driving, overwhelmed with fear and rage.

I remembered news reports of kids throwing rocks onto the highway; not only did the rocks shatter windshields, but they also caused the people inside the car to have their heads blown apart, dying on the spot.

Today, my family was also so close to this terrifying death! Just a little more, and that screwdriver could end up in my wife’s head or heart! If I were alone in the car, I would definitely kill him.

But now I had to stay calm; no matter how much it hurt, I had to think rationally to protect my family! At that moment, the white car in front suddenly flipped me off again.

In an instant, I suddenly came up with a bold plan.

What if I followed behind him and let him clear the way for me? If there were obstacles ahead, he would definitely avoid them first.

If he had to brake, I could rear-end him, using his braking and weight to force myself to stop.

In other words, when he slowed down, I could crash into him and send him off the cliff, ensuring my own safety!

At that moment, he would act as a buffer for me, which could also be a way to save my family! Thinking of this method, I clenched my teeth.

He was the one who dragged me into a deeper abyss, so since that’s the case, I might as well take him down into the abyss with me, using him as a cushion! With this thought, I immediately turned the steering wheel and followed the white car.

He probably didn’t see this coming, and soon he changed lanes to the left, and I followed him to the left.

He changed lanes to the right, and I followed him to the right.

The white car, which had originally been in control, now became very passive! My wife noticed my intent; she covered her wound and weakly said, “Honey, stay close.”

I nodded and focused all my energy on following the white car.

He seemed to become more compliant, driving steadily forward.

But suddenly, a change occurred! The white car suddenly swerved sharply to the left, so fast that he almost hit the guardrail himself.

Fortunately, I instinctively used the white car as a shield, and when he changed lanes, I also urgently changed lanes.

At that moment, I discovered that there was actually a large box on the road ahead, probably dropped by some truck.

He deliberately changed lanes so close to that spot, hoping I would crash into it, leading to a disaster! I felt a chill run down my spine as I kept close behind him.

This move was extremely dangerous, but it was the only way to keep my family safe! Seeing that I was such a nuisance, the white car began to slow down gradually, and since I couldn’t brake, I naturally crashed directly into his rear! I crashed into him again, gripping the steering wheel tightly at the moment of impact, and he finally stepped on the brakes! I let out a sigh of relief as my speed began to decrease.

From a hundred kilometers per hour, it slowly dropped to ninety, then to eighty.

If this continued, I should be able to use the weight and braking of the white car to slow down even more.

I even thought that once I slowed down enough, I could crash through the guardrail and hit a tree, letting it help me brake.

But in the next moment, the white car made another move! Just as I was turning the steering wheel towards the guardrail, the white car suddenly accelerated and changed lanes, causing my speed to immediately increase! I yelled urgently, “Hold on tight!”

The car crashed hard into the guardrail.

A seasoned driver would let the empty passenger seat take the hit, but I couldn’t move recklessly; my family was in the car! I had to take the hit myself!

The car’s hood flew off after hitting the guardrail, and I yanked the steering wheel to the left, pressing the car against the guardrail to try to slow down.

However, even so, when we crashed into the trees, we were still going nearly fifty kilometers per hour! With a deafening crash, I tried to brace myself, but the sheer force of the crash threw me forward despite my efforts to hold back.

The airbag deployed and slammed into my chest, causing my vision to go dark and nearly making me unable to breathe.

I tried to take deep breaths, but it felt like something was blocking my chest, making my heart race, my head spin, and my vision blur.

I strained to turn around and check on my wife and daughter.

My wife was already unconscious, while my daughter lay in her car seat, her little face smeared with blood, wailing for me.

I had never witnessed anything so heart-wrenching! I struggled to unbuckle my seatbelt, but the crash had happened too quickly, and my car was severely damaged, leaving my leg trapped tightly.

Most importantly, the white car had come to a stop in front of us.

The driver of the white car got out, climbed over the guardrail, and approached us.

Instead of rushing to help, he pulled out his phone and started filming.

He approached the car window, pointed the camera at me and said, “Look, this idiot is driving recklessly on the highway, and after rear-ending me, he still wants to run away.

Now he’s been taken down by me.”

In his eyes, I was the villain.

I lowered the window, but before I could respond, he yanked my hair and slapped me hard: “Keep acting tough! Don’t you like honking your horn? Don’t you like fleeing after causing an accident? Today, you’ve run into me, and let me tell you, I will never go easy on scum like you!”

I was speechless.

He kept smashing his phone against me, one hit after another!

I spat out a mouthful of blood, and only then did he notice my wife and child in the back.

He said coldly, “So the whole family is here? Did your family ever tell you not to drive like an idiot? Now the whole family is gathered together.”

He stretched casually, showing no intention of helping us, and nonchalantly said, “Just wait for your compensation.”

I spat out some blood and weakly said, “My brakes have been broken for a long time.

I wasn’t honking to hurry you; I was just trying to avoid hitting you, but you wouldn’t get out of the way and even slammed on your brakes to scare me…”

“Oh, right, right…”

he said nonchalantly, “Your brakes didn’t fail early or late; they just happened to fail right when you rear-ended me.”

I knew that whatever I said would be useless.

He would only think I was lying and trying to deceive him.

When someone is set on causing trouble, any legitimate reason becomes an excuse.

Right now, I only cared about the safety of my wife and child in the back seat.

I noticed the car was starting to smoke! I was really worried the car might catch fire! I tried to pull my leg free, but the console was pinning it down tightly.

My leg was fine; the problem was that I couldn’t pull it out.

I tried to adjust the seat back, but there was a car seat behind me, which blocked my seat.

If I moved it back any further, it would crush my daughter! The driver of the white car saw me struggling and laughed, “Look at what kind of state you’re in now.

Why were you so reckless in the first place?”

I shouted, “What are you doing just standing there? This is all your fault; why won’t you help us?”

He shrugged, looking innocent, and said, “If they die, they die.

That’s your wife and child, not mine.”

He took out his phone and started filming me, saying, “Look, this garbage car is starting to burn.

When the whole family burns to death, that’ll be the consequence of reckless driving!”

I was frantic.
